Message from the Executive Director
Music, humor and gifts are packaged with human touch – uplifting emotional experiences are created for the well being of special individuals in challenging environments –
making a difference in the lives of those who
need the gift of human kindness – even a form
of “treatment” for mental health. Whatever way people choose to describe who we are and
what we do, it comes down to people – people,
caring about people.
Nonprofit organizations, including Holiday Express, have not been spared from the recent declining economic conditions. In June 2009, Giving USA 2009 reported that total giving in 2008 was down 5.7% from 2007 – the first decline in giving since 1987 and the second decline since 1956. The trend continues.
Through the years, nonprofit organizations
have developed a reputation for having a
more casual, informal operational approach
than their peers on the for profit side of the
aisle. However, nonprofit is not synonymous
with non-business. Donors, grantors and
the government demand that nonprofit organizations be much more accountable to
the public. For any organization to be able to meet the higher standards that are being imposed on all nonprofits today, it will need to behave more professionally and competently – beginning with agreeing to a well-defined strategic direction and developing a realistic map for attaining objectives. Our board of trustees is committed to sustaining and growing Holiday Express for those we serve.
